The Noise Magazine celebrates its 23rd anniversary with a Birthday Tribute to the beloved local music writer and DJ, Mikey Dee. Friday, September 17th at the Kirkland Cafe
The Noise has joined forces with the Mikey Dee Musicians Benefit Trust to present a show at the Kirkland Cafe on what would have been Mikey Dee's 42nd birthday. Featuring bands that were close friends with Mikey, the evening is a chance to get together to remember the impact he had on the Boston music scene. The evening features Mick Mondo and Streaker, Linda Viens, The Emily Grogan Band, The "Five Clark Dave" featuring Al Janik with Electrolux, Jonathan Butterscott and T Max and the Mickey Bliss Organ Combo. The show starts at 8:30pm and is only $5. The Kirkland is located at 427 Washington St. on the Somerville/Cambridge line. Call (617) 491-9640 for more information.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mikey Dee Musicians Benefit Trust, which assists musicians facing catastrophic health events with money for rent, bills or other expenses. The trust, which originally helped support Mikey during the 3 and 1/2 years following his devastating brain-stem stroke until his death on July 6, 2003, was funded through massive benefits that were a virtual who's-who of Boston music. This selfless outpouring of support and goodwill reflected the impact that Mikey had in the local music scene and how well liked he was.
T Max, editor of The Noise and a good friend of Dee's, has been hosting anniversary parties for The Noise for many years and wanted to combine his annual party with the Dee tribute as soon as he heard about it. The Noise has been covering "rock around Boston" since 1981 and is essential reading for anyone interested in keeping up with Boston's up-and-coming bands. Join us for an evening of local rock that Mikey would have loved.
