Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital

Mikey spent 22 months at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital where he became a much loved patient. It was unusual to have him stay so long, since Spaulding is a short-term rehabilitation hospital but, due to the severe nature of Mikey's stroke it took many months of therapy before he was considered to be independent enough (able to communicate) and stable enough (able to breath consistently and not need occasional supplemental oxygen) to move to a more residential facility. While at Spaulding Mikey received speech therapy (work with his mouth/head/tongue and various hi-tech and low-tech communication devices) occupational therapy (helping prepare for eventual independence and performing daily tasks) and physical therapy (stretching, improving functional movement, massage) Monday through Friday during the day. He also had a massage therapist (deep massage, stretching and aromatherapy) and an acupuncturist (acupuncture, acupressure, magnetic therapies, natural medicine) contributing and coordinating with the Spaulding staff and doctors.

Spaulding is located behind the Fleet Center. It is easily accessible by the T (North Station or Science Park stops). There is also limited parking available at the hospital.
